Synthetic Loss was a performance and installation centered on bringing awareness to electronic waste, the fast-fashion environmental impacts, and relationships disrupted by technologically influenced norms or standards. It speculated a heterotopia that valued processes in direct subversion to capitalist modes of production and material valuation. It was also focused on challenging our dependence on Social Media platforms and hoped to inspire conversations toward envisioning a future of media platforms that would encourage mutual aid over capital gain.
The work was in process when Covid-19 prevented the culmination of the work. However, pieces of the E-waste set were finished as my collaborator Peter Salera's Parsons School of Design master's thesis in lockdown.
